Report: Cr-48s Resume Shipping
Posted on 22. May, 2011 by Daniel Cawrey in Chrome OS, Rumors, Tips
Still waiting for your free Chrome OS Pilot laptop? You might want to continue to hold out hope.
Although the Cr-48 shipment tracker has likely seen its last days, people are reporting that they are getting gifted by Google with Chrome OS laptops. This comes contrary to what Chrome VP Sundar Pichai tweeted some time ago that the Cr-48s would cease shipping.
Perhaps an effort to send out what might have been a hidden cache of Chrome OS Pilot notebooks is why people are still getting them. It would be nice if some of our international readers would be the beneficiaries of these notebooks, but I’ve yet to find a substantial report that this is the case.
Nevertheless, this suggests that major production of both the Acer and Samsung Chromebooks is ramping up, and that Google is preparing their supply chain to send out subscription-based notebooks to eager customers. What’s still unknown is what kind of numbers Google and its Chrome OS hardware partners are expecting for the initial wave of launch devices, but as always we’ll update you with the latest when that information becomes known.
Have you been the proud recipient of a Cr-48 recently?

Just got one today came home and my fiancé said you have a package from ups. I opened up the shipping box and saw a drawing of a hamster (kinda weirded me out lol) so opened it up and was like what’s this??!? I had actually forgot I signed up back in november so this truly was a shock! Still playing around but I have to say it’s pretty cool. Guess they had to go deep into that closet for one so close to the June 15th launch. I guess I will just be a late early adopter

Mine arrived unexpectedly at work yesterday afternoon. No idea why Google decided to ship me one so late in the game, but I’ll take the early birthday present!

Got mine today! Hooray! I as one of those poor shmoes helplessly waiting for UPS to come day after day in December only to be greeted with some random XMas package my wife ordered. So I gave up, and did what 500 million other people did: I bought an iPad 2.
With that said I can see a case for these machines, the form factor is great and easy to carry around. I love the new keyboard and keys, Love the fast boot time and instant on (crazy fast). I predict this machine will get more attention than initially thought, particularly having flash and a full keyboard.
THANKS GOOGLE.

Got mine yesterday (May 24) too – packaging is hilarious. I had completely forgotten about it as well, thought it was a mistake at first – and there’s no letter in the box saying what it is!
Now I gotta find out what they expect me to do with it seeing as how there’s so little information along.
But still – Thanks Google!

I signed up on day 1 and still no CR48, but I’m still checking the door for that UPS package. I feel like a hot chick just said hello to me, but when I ask her out she just laughs at me.
