Unreleased Acer Netbook Shows Up in Chromium Bug Reports
Posted on 23. Aug, 2010 by Daniel Cawrey in Rumors
A blog that is based on Acer netbooks has put together a post about some bug reporting that has showed up on the Chromium site referencing an unknown Acer model dubbed “ZGA”. According to the article, it appears that this runs concurrent with other device model numbers that come from Acer. While I couldn’t find the name of the writer on this blog its author, “Macles”, seems to know a lot about computer manufacturing.
Based on the hardware specifications in the bug reports, this netbook would have some different hardware than traditional Windows-based devices. The processor is an Intel Atom N450 1.66 GHz, it has a SanDisk pSSD-S2 8GB, 1.3 megapixel webcam and an ambient light sensor.
Despite these specs, now that the Atom N550 dual core is shipping, one would think that they would swap the processor from something newer, but it all depends on price points. The article further speculates that this ZGA netbook could concievably ship in September, based on the timeline for testing in the bug reports.
It’s been known for some time that Acer has ambitiously planned to enter the Chrome OS market, with an executive boasting that the company would sell a million of them this year. So if that’s going to happen, they better release one pretty soon.
